Best Hiking Trails in Evergreen

One of the best things about living in Colorado is having access to some of the best hiking trails in North America. If you are a nature lover and looking for a place in Evergreen Colorado, you’ll be happy to know there are several hiking trails near the area. Below are five different trails to consider for your next outdoor adventure.

Bergen Peak and Elk Meadows Trail

This area makes for a perfect starting point for those who are new to trail hiking due to the difficulty level begin easy. The path is adorned mostly by wild flowers and is a great place to explore between the months of March and October.

Walkabouts for dogs (with leash on at all times), Cross-country skiing, Trail running, Mountain biking, Horseback riding, Wildlife watching, Nature trip

Alderfer/Three Sisters Park

With its network of hiking and biking trails, this park is a perfect spot to spend a good 2-3 hours with nature. The trail difficulty is easy. This one has a perfect path among the rocks, which kids will enjoy immensely. Dogs are allowed on the trail if they are leashed at all times. The sweeping views of the Continental Divide are so breathtaking you’ll have a hard time finding a reason to go back down. If that is not enough, you can also watch Cooper’s hawks and Stellar jays flying about throughout the day.

Hiking, Mountain biking, Family picnic, Bird watching

Maxwell Falls Trail

You may need some outdoor skills when tackling this trail, but it is still doable even for those who do not spend a lot of time in nature. This moderate difficulty trail has a strong buzz of wildlife, but nothing too exotic or dangerous that you cannot take your teenage children to enjoy the trek. The hike distance is between 1.6 to about 4 miles, which can take an hour to 2.5 hours to complete. There have been serious concerns about littering in this area, so be mindful of your trash especially when going for a family picnic by the falls. The best time to come is during Summer and Spring, but Maxwell Falls is just as beautiful in the Fall.

Picnic, Trekking, Swimming by the waterfalls

Dedisse Park

Perhaps one of the most cared for and conserved hiking trails near Evergreen, Colorado, this park is the perfect combination of nature’s wonders and man’s ingenuity. This mostly protected area is where families and outdoor enthusiasts can spend hours getting lost in the beauty of nature. Within the park is a full-fledged and well-maintained golf course, which can be a refuge for those who love nature, but depise the hiking part of the equation. There are also covered picnic areas where friends and family can gather without having to worry about their food and cutlery getting dirty. This park symbolizes so much more than just the part of Evergreen Colorado that is unspoiled. It also exemplifies the fact that modernization can co-exist with a healthy respect for Mother Nature.  There are a diverse selection of trails from easy to moderate in difficulty.

Pence Park

Pence has two existing trails, but information on both is scarce. This is a difficult hiking trail that is intended only for those who are both brave and experienced. It is not ideal for people who just want to hike for about 30 minutes and sit down for a quick sandwich. The trailhead does not have a map, and you will have to negotiate overgrown parts the entire hike. Still, if you make it to at least 800 feet of elevation, you get the incredible spoils, not the least of which is the panoramic view of Evergreen CO in all its glory.
