The holidays are upon us which means there will be lights to see, hot cocoa to sip, decorations to put up, and Santa Clause will be coming to town. The Rocky Mountains foothills towns have many holiday events that are fun for the whole family. Here is a list of events throughout December in the towns of Evergreen, Conifer and Golden Colorado.
Evergreen CO Holiday Events
Holiday Walk & Christmas Tree Lighting – The event will take place on Friday, December 2, 2016 from 5-9pm. This year the community Christmas tree will be located in the downtown parking lot. Santa Claus will be at the Little Bear to meet and take photos with youngsters. There will also be horse-drawn trolley rides; a face painter; figgy pudding in the bank parking lot, roasted chestnuts, and all of the stores open for holiday cheer. Various musical acts will be featured on the main stage, including the Evergreen Children’s Chorale, singers from Colorado Academy, and local alternative musician Liz Ford. There will be shuttles to downtown from four locations — Church of the Hills, Christ the King Catholic Church, Hiwan Homestead and the Church of the Transfiguration. This annual Evergreen Holiday Walk and Tree Lighting brings the community downtown to enjoy the festivities every year.
Pond Hockey Tournament – The 4 on 4 pond hockey tournament event takes place on Evergreen lake on December 31, 2016, from 8am-12pm. Each team will play at least three round robin games within their division, with each game running 30 minutes in length with no halves or periods. The team entry fee is $325 in advance and $350 after December 1st. The entire team fee must be paid at time of registration. Last day to register is December 23rd. If you don’t want to play, come by to watch and cheer for your favorite team.
Skate the Lake – A family-friendly, alcohol- free New Years Eve party on beautiful Evergreen Lake. Enjoy skating on the lake, games, food, music and fabulous fireworks. The event is from 6pm to midnight, with a fireworks display at 8pm and midnight to ring in the New Year. Tickets are $20 in advance & $25 at the door. Ice skate rentals are available for rent for $7, but there is limited availablility. A great New Year’s Eve event for all ages!
Evergreen Lake Plunge – At high noon on New Year’s Day at Evergreen Lake, snow or shine, you too can jump into the inviting waters for a winter plunge! You’d be joining several local personalities, some more notorious than others, in their New Year’s Day bath in the icy Rocky Mountain waters. A 10-foot by 10-foot area, four to five feet deep, will be cut out of the ice and equipped with a platform, ladder and Evergreen Fire Department water rescue personnel to ensure everyone’s safety. The event costs $35 in advance and $45 at the door; proceeds benefit the Drive Smart and Evergreen Parks & Recreation District Special Needs Program.
Conifer CO Holiday Events
Christmas in Conifer – On Saturday, Devember 3, 2016 from 10am-4pm, downtown Conifer will be celebrating the holiday season with shopping and a parade. The Christmas Market and Spirits Tents opens at 10am and it a place to enjoy heated tents where you can buy a special gift, find a tasty treat, and warm up from the inside out! At Santaland you will find a bonfire, snacks and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be visiting with children. snacks! To top off the day grab and seat to watch the Conifer Christmas Parade taking place at 2pm.
Golden CO Holiday Events
Olde Golden Christmas – A city-wide, month long celebration from December 1st to the 31st. The historic main street of Golden will be the central festive location for Olde Golden Christmas. Events in Golden in December include an elf run, candlelight walk, Victorian carolers, holiday art market, live theater, a dazzling light display along Clear Creek, Santa encounters, free Newfoundland dog-pulled cart rides, shopping, dining, and so much more.
