Pine’s Rhubarb Festival

Pine CO Rhubarb Festival

Rhubarb makes for a humble but delicious pie. In Pine CO, however, it represents so much more to the people in the community that they have an entire festival dedicated to Rhubarb. Every year in June, both locals and visitors flock to the center of town where they participate in some fun activities, including but not limited to, the following:

Rhubarb Main Dish Cook-Off

Professional as well as amateur cooks go head to head with their version of an excellent Rhubarb dish. Cash prizes are awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, and gift certificates are given to all participants in the cook-off.

Rhubarb Dessert Making Content

Rhubarb, being such a versatile vegetable, can be made into savory as well as sweet dishes. The Rhubarb dessert contest is among the highlights of the festival in Pine CO each year. Bakers are inspired to be as creative as possible, and many a great pie and other confections have resulted from fierce competition among Pine residents.

Legendary Pancake Breakfast

The unapologetic consumption of carbs officially kicks off the yearly event. It serves as the preparation for the competitors in the main dish cook-off, which is quite taxing both physically and mentally.

The Parade

After judging all dishes and announcement of the cook-off winners, the parade starts and goes around the town to showcase the celebration and get as many people involved as possible. There is a marching band playing lively music while the floats ride by the spectators. Local merchants usually give away prizes from atop the open float as a way to advertise to local shoppers.

River Duck Races

Held at the Pine River Dam, this is one of the most iconic and enjoyable activities in the yearly Rhubarb Festival. It brings together people from all walks of life which further strengthens the grassroots of Pine CO.

Carnival/Fair

Apart from the cook-off and bake-off events, there is also the county fair for the enjoyment of locals and tourists. Vendors can display and sell their products to customers. The fair features a broad range of kiosks, food stands, and other kinds of commodities, many of which are made locally in Pine. There is also a carnival that kids love so much. Apart from the usual carnival games, there are also a few shows by residents, showcasing grassroots talent.
